Decoys Made In America For The Long Haul

The "Henryettan" The Legendary First Decoy by G&H Decoys

The boys and I here at First Light Gear have been searching for a quality, American made decoy to hunt over for quite some time now. I personally have been hunting over a mixed bag of decoys from different manufacturers that just have not stood up to the abuse of hunting hard for a full season. I’ve had decoys leak right out of the box, paint chipping after only a couple uses, and various other problems that effect the full usefulness of the product. In our search, we focused on companies that offer superb realism in their decoy design, quality control so every decoy out there is anatomically correct and have the same look as the next one, features that stick out from the competition that make setup any easy task and companies that are family owned and operated that focus on customer service and staying in touch with what their customers are looking for.

Our search brought us to G&H Decoys Inc. out of Henryetta Oklahoma. G&H Decoys is family owned and operated and 100% made in the USA. Opie made contact with Ward over at the office and let him know that we were very interested in hunting over their quality product which led to me taking a road trip to visit with them the other day. As I walked in, I was impressed right away with their mixture of decoys and live mounts shown together in their showroom. That told me they stand behind their product being the most anatomically correct decoy on the market. I was warmly greeted by the third generation owner, Duck Gazalski. He showed me all the different decoys they had to offer including some of the new products they had just introduced; including their Weather Vane Decoy design. I was very impressed by this new product. The body of this decoy is 90% full but will still stack like a regular shell decoy. Now, if you’ve ever carried full body decoys across a field, you know how important it is to have a light weight, stackable product like this. Here are some of the key features that go into every G&H Decoy:

  • Specially treated surface for maximum paint adhesion and longevity
  • Custom manufactured in the U.S.A. Using domestic flyway body styles
  • Authentically hand painted with natural bird colors for exceptional realism
  • Molded, high impact plastic for lightweight durability
  • Unique keel design with front and rear tie offs
  • Anchor line adjustment hook
  • Keel’s weight and counter balance guarantee self righting
  • Non-glare paint
  • Raised feather detail and realistic eyes
  • The newest duck/goose head positions available
  • Removable swivel heads on selected models
  • Recessed body design that creates a vacuum which makes the decoy appear to ride heavier and prevents rolling side to side like a football as is the case with flat bottom decoys.

After my meeting I am proud to announce that The First Light Gear Waterfowl Team will be hunting exclusively over G&H Decoys for the 2011-2012 season and hopefully many more to come. We will be putting these decoys to the test day in and day out. We will be bringing you instructional videos on how to rig your decoys, how to properly set up your spread in different conditions including water and field hunts and bringing you live action videos from the field hunting over these quality decoys. I would like to personally thank Duck and his team on behalf of First Light Gear for the time they spent with me last week. I am confident FLG and G&H Decoys can bring you quality products and information to make all your hunts successful.

Thanks for reading,

Rooney
